It is the UV in the sunlight that tends to dry out the plastic in the hood material. Usually the windows go first, but they can easily be replaced. The hood eventually goes hard and discoloured and needs renewing.

To prolong the life of your hood never use household cleaners as most contain ammonia, use a specific hood cleaner, this usually comes in the form of a shampoo and a polish.

Keeping the boat covered - especially the hood when you are not using the boat, particularly in the winter months obviously stops the sunlight from hitting the plastic and lengthens the life of your hood.
